Francis Ford Coppola’s oft-overlooked second feature is a zanily offbeat entry in the 1960s sex-comedy canon. Updating 1930s-style screwball anarchy for the counterculture ’60s, Coppola directs with whirlwind brio, bolstered by a colorful supporting cast that includes Rip Torn, Karen Black, Julie Harris, and an Oscar-nominated Geraldine Page.
