Adapted from a story by Angela Carter (who cowrote the script), Neil Jordan’s bewitching feminist fairy tale brings “Little Red Riding Hood” and werewolf fables together to haunting effect. A wise grandmother (Angela Lansbury) tells her granddaughter Rosaleen (Sarah Patterson) disturbing tales of innocent maidens falling in love with handsome strangers, of beasts that roam the woods, and of mysterious disappearances that occur when the moon is full.
