Based on the humorous memoir by Betty MacDonald, this diverting fish-out-of-water comedy casts frequent screen partners Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray as a pair of Manhattan newlyweds who get a serious dose of culture shock when he enthusiastically purchases an upstate farm in the hopes of cleaning up in the egg business—leading to a host of complications both practical and marital as they attempt to adjust to life in the country. A major box-office hit, THE EGG AND I also introduced the popular duo of Ma (Marjorie Main, Oscar-nominated) and Pa Kettle (Percy Kilbride), who would go on to star in their own popular spin-off series.
