Claudette Colbert delivers a tour-de-force performance as a struggling single mother turned notorious nightclub sensation in this wildly plotted pre-Code melodrama. Unable to support her daughter, Sally Trent (Colbert) puts the baby up for adoption, gets a job as a torch singer, and rockets to notoriety as an entertainer known for her hard-drinking, hedonistic lifestyle. When Sally gets the improbable job of hosting a children’s radio program, she uses the opportunity to track down her long-lost child.
