Directed by Axelle Ropert • 2016 • France
Starring Bastien Bouillon, Mélanie Bernier, Antonin Fresson
Director Axelle Ropert puts a fresh spin on the 1930s-style screwball comedy with this charmingly literal take on the old adage that “love is blind.” Demand is low for rebetiko (Greek folk music) in Paris, but that doesn’t stop the Papagika brothers. Elise (Mélanie Bernier), who lives in their building, shares a passion for music with Théo Papagika (Bastien Bouillon), but when they first meet in the elevator, he doesn’t notice that she is blind. It’s hate at first sight. Will this early misunderstanding bring them together or drive them apart?
