Padre Pio

With this impassioned biography of revered Catholic mystic Padre Pio, director Abel Ferrara brings the spiritual dimensions long inherent in his work to the fore. In post–World War I Italy, Franciscan monk Padre Pio (Shia LaBeouf) arrives in the small town of San Giovanni Rotondo, where he wrestles with the divine torment of his faith—culminating in a confrontation with the devil and the appearance of the stigmata—as well as the human evils of corruption and inequality.
