THE MIKADO Deleted Scene
2m 59s
Several songs were cut or trimmed during “The Mikado’s” journey from stage to screen, in both the script and the postproduction stage. One of these was Ko-Ko’s “I’ve Got a Little List,” which was shot but deleted just before the film was released. This was most likely due to its incorporation of controversial references to the current political tensions in Europe—specifically targeting Hitler and Neville Chamberlain—yet some theories maintain that it was also because the lyrics contain a racial slur (eventually deleted from the opera altogether). Although the scene has resurfaced over the years in various prints of the film, it is presented here for the first time on home video.
