One of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s most startling works, PORCILE (“Pigsty”) explores humanity’s capacity for barbarism through two parallel stories. In the first, Pierre Clémenti stars as a young man who turns to cannibalism in a desolate volcanic landscape. “I killed my father, I ate human flesh, and I quiver with joy.” The line between human and animal impulses is also on display in the second story, in which Jean-Pierre Léaud plays the son of a wealthy German industrialist who ignores his fiancée (Anne Wiazemsky) to spend time pursuing his, ahem, curious obsession with pigs.
